DRY RED WINES:

Bottle sizes are 750ML unless otherwise noted:

Smith-Berry Chambourcin
In this estate grown and bottled wine made from the Chambourcin grape, Smith-Berry Winery has created something remarkable for those beginning to explore red wines. In short, this lightly sweet red is made in a style which is much more complex than one might expect from a wine in the “semi-dry red wine” category.

In the glass, the wine shows deep garnet color at center and bright purple at the edge, indicating it's relative youth and fruitiness. On the nose, scents of blackberry, grape, vanilla and a whiff of smoke are apparent. The wine's texture is luscious, with flavors of black plum, raspberry, cherry, blueberry and white pepper. Rounded and elegant, the wine carries its sweet fruit well, and delights with a surprisingly long finish. Easily the best Chambourcin I have ever tasted. For a great food match, try it with spicy pork or beef Asian dishes, or zesty barbecue.

Smith-Berry  2008 ZINFANDEL (Temporarily Sold Out)
Bronze Medal Winner, San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
This Zinfandel shows more red fruit than black in color and profile. Raspberry jam and red plums are found in abundance on the nose, with spice notes and a trace of lavender. Flavors of dense red berry fruit, accented by American oak, are joined by mineral, baking spices and black pepper. The wine has firm, yet fine tannins, and can age well for several years. A terrific choice to pair with everything from Osso Bucco to pizza.

Smith-Berry “Brother John”
This limited production, sturdy red wine named for John M. Berry is made predominately from Syrah. It is deep garnet in color and has powerful aromatics of plum, black cherry, chocolate, licorice, vanilla, wood and subtle notes of earth. On the palate, the fruit forward nature of Syrah, along with French oak influence combine to deliver flavors of blackberry, plum, mocha, sweet oak, smoke and cherry that linger nicely on the long, deliberate finish. Tannins are apparent but refined, and the wine shows substantial acidity on the back end. Both make Brother John a natural for Autumnal hearty beef stews and roasts. Aforementioned structure will allow this well- rounded, high quality red to age nicely in your cellar for 3-5 years.

Merlot
Merlot is deep in color with intense fruit flavors reminiscent of black cherries, currants, and slight red fruit. On the palate it is rich and opulent, bursting with flavors of black fruits backed by vanillin oak notes and round, chewy tannins. Though enjoyable at present, this classic wine has the structure and intensity to improve with aging.

Smith-Berry 2008 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Bronze Medal Winner, San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition deep ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon made entirely from Kentucky grown grapes. On the nose, the wine shows distinct blueberry and red current aromas, accented by white pepper and clove. As the wine opens, it gives more spice notes, along with lilac. Flavors or plum, blueberry, spicy oak and black currant are vibrant in this well rounded Cabernet. The wine is an exceptional  food red, with plenty of acidity and a satisfying, long finish.  Excellent with grilled rack of lamb or Steak au Poivre.

Smith-Berry Norton Alc. (Temporarily Sold Out)
Garnet in color, with black cherry, raspberry, licorice & spice on nose. Black cherry, white pepper & vanilla nuances on palate, with a cleansing acidity adding to the “food wine” quality. This medium bodied wine is an unoaked, quality representation of what Norton can provide as a varietal; good fruit, bright acidity, long finish & refreshingly unique. Terrific accompaniment to filet mignon or lamb chops with rosemary & garlic.

Smith-Berry Burley TM
Dark garnet in color, this blend of Munson, Norton & Cabernet Sauvignon is quite interesting. Aromas of plum, cinnamon, raspberry, cola & fennel rise from the glass to meet you. Plums, licorice & berries carry over to the palate, which is quite dry with good structure. Tannins are present, but not harsh and suggest wine will continue to improve in the bottle for a few years to come. Serve with a hearty stew or pork roast for a savory match indeed.

john Harley
Bronze Medal Winner, San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
This Big Zin is the namesake of a Big Man.  John Harley Smith was my father, a lifelong dairy farmer and advocate for small dairy farmers across the country. Our 2008 100% Zinfandel is a tribute to his memory. Both expressive and restrained, this wine shows moderation and balance. It is ruby hued with an enticing nose packed with raspberries, spice box, cherries, toffee, lavender and clove. Flavors of raspberry and blackberry are teamed with orange zest, red plum and white pepper. Aging in new French oak barrels adds a touch of vanilla to the mix and assist’s with the wine’s refined character.

2007 BARBERA
Brilliant deep ruby in color, this Barbera has aromas of cherry, raspberry, smoke, violet, and white pepper. On the palate, one finds black cherry, smokey bacon, blueberry, a mild earthiness, and spicy oak. The wine is both fruit forward and savory, with lively acidity and moderate tannic structure. The finish is quite long and the wine shows best served between 60-65 degrees. An excellent choice for penne with sausages and roasted red peppers !
