Dear Friends, Smith-Berry Vineyard and Winery opens its 7 th dinner and concert season on May 23 with Nervous Melvin and the Mistakes. Our 100% estate grown Vidal Blanc will be available again as well as the long awaited Two Dog White. We are very excited about our two new wines: Mary's Merlot, a dry red wine and Carol's Cuvée, a crisp rosé. We all know what a rough winter we had but the grapes seem to have come through it in good shape. And speaking of the vineyard and its care, look for Wendell and Tanya Berry's Cheviot sheep doing the mowing for us again this year. This is an experiment that has worked very well; the vineyard is clean, we mow less, and it is a pleasure to have the sheep around. We reduced our waste last year by 2/3 by replacing plastic cutlery with reusable stainless, compostable paper plates, and continuing to recycle aluminum cans and wine bottles. We'll ask you again this year to separate these products into their proper receptacles and thank you very much, in advance, for your help. Our annual table decorating contest will be held on August 22 nd , our 7 th anniversary. Watch for announcements about theme and prizes! As farmers we are proud to serve food grown on our farm. All our vegetables are organically raised and we're looking forward to tomatoes, eggplant, pesto made from our basil, and other seasonal vegetables, in addition to our own farm-raised beef. The corn and other vegetables come from Gallrein's in Shelby County ; cheese from Kenny's Farmhouse in Barren County . We also buy vegetables from our friends Cardin and Courtney at A Place on Earth Farm . Any meat we serve that we don't raise comes from Boone's in Bardstown. Watch for announcements this season about dinners here on Saturday evening when we don't have a concert. These dinners will be 100% locally grown food and we hope will increase our commitment to our own farming and other farmers. Starting May 4 th our tasting room will be open Monday through Saturday, 10-6. We have Kenny's Farmhouse cheese available as well as spreads and cookies from our kitchen, or you are welcome to bring your own picnic. This year's concert and dinner series starts May 23rd with the pop/rock group Nervous Melvin and the Mistakes, Chuck's pulled pork barbeque, and Mary's side dishes and cookies. In the past we have enjoyed having corporate outings and birthday parties at our concerts. If you are interested just call ahead and we'll work with you to make sure that your group has a great time. Ticket prices this year will be the same as last year, 19.95 + tax in advance, 25.00 + tax at the door. You will still need to make a reservation in advance to assure that we have a place for you. We invite our customers outside our calling area to use our toll free number (1-888-845-7091). If you are in our calling area the number is (502) 845-7091. We accept checks, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover to buy tickets. Tickets are picked up at the door and are non-refundable. We are looking forward to seeing you all this summer.
